Champion of Tortall: Alanna the Lioness Cosplay

Alanna the Lioness
Song of the Lioness Quartet
October 2017

Creating my Alanna the Lioness cosplay was a work of love and passion.  As a young adult I read the Song of the Lioness quartet and was enthralled. On the page was described a feisty, angry and passionate person, a woman to fought against the expectations placed against her, who struggled and persevered and succeeded.

I saw a lot of myself in Alanna. To this day, Tamora Pierce’s books remain some of the most influential books on my life, I read each one with glee and will often go back to revisit the world and spend time with characters who now seem like old friend

Creating a cosplay of Alanna was daunting in many ways, but getting to wear the armor and hold a shield was a magical experience. I’m always delighted when I meet someone who shares the same love of these stories, the number of people I have bonded with over these books is astounding.

All cosplay pieces by me, except the shield which was painted by the amazing Sour Fruit Junkie. Photos by Level 23.

You can see more pictures over on Flickr, or the whole set on Patreon.

This cosplay would not have been possible without the amazing support of my Patrons.
